Catahoula Leopard Dog Info & Pictures
[tps_header]Catahoula leopard dog, also known as Catahoula leopard cur, is an American dog breed named as the state dog of Louisiana since 1979. It is a mix of many different dog breeds. It is not as popular as Labrador retriever or German Shepherd dog, but it makes great hunting dog and herding dog.
Since Catahoula leopard dog is a cross bred dog breed, its color differs, so is the coat. They are very smart and energetic. Catahoula leopard dogs are considered to be even tempered in general but a little assertive sometimes. They take their jobs very seriously. They can make a great family dog as long as it’s not isolated. They are quite protective when with children. And with some training, they can make great working dog. Below are some pictures of the Catahoula leopard dog, hope the information above may help you to learn more about this dog breed.[/tps_header]
I know very little of this breed. I’ve had german shepherds most of my life. I find this dog to be extremely beautiful , and if they are intelligent; I would definitely think of getting one.
I am an owner of one of these dogs. Originally a cat person, my adult children insisted on a dog for me after the death of my husband. I would never be without this breed if I had a choice in the matter. He is now 11 years of age and still learning. He learns from human teachings, other dogs, and on his own. They are an amazing breed. One curious and fun thing is that they entertain themselves with toys and games that they will create on their own. Strong personalities, but so loveing and the need to please. Mine likes soft spoken or whispered commands and directions. Just can’t say enough about this breed.
I think these dogs are gorgeous!! I don’t know anyone that has one other then what I see on the sites. Can you give me some information on where I could possibly get one? Also any info on any health issues I should know about? What does one normally pay for this breed? Or is there any rescues for them that need adopted into a great home? Thank you so much!
Were is these found and cost? Have a corgi and always had cattle dogs. Would they be good working as service dog for children at St Judes. Now gave three that do this. Corgi chiwawa herder mix.
Hello, I rescued a catahoola mix when she was 4 months old. Now she’s 4. She is incredibly smart in a million ways. Her interactions with our other 4 dogs and us (my husband and I)continue to amaze. She is skilled, clever, inventive, helpful to me and to our other dogs too. She is a thinker, a planner, and ridiculously energetic. She understands everything! She also is sweet, loving and very, very, sensitive. She can be quite a nuisance and can drive me crazy (a lot). She is needs a lot of exercise and she talks too much, but she is a LOVE! She is only 50lbs. She looks like a mini-wolf and has orange eyes. We love her so much.
Thank you for sharing your story! We can totally understand your feeling.
We rescued a Catahoula mix in July when he was 12 weeks old. He’s not 7 months and so in love! He is smart, funny, energetic and caring. We have a fairly large fenced in backyard and he runs extremely fast in circles and from end to end. He loves to be chased, fetch and bring back balls and sticks. He has beautiful brindle gray and black coloring with white paw tips and white chest and hazel eyes. From what I’ve read, Catahoula’s are fiercely loyal their families and this hold true to our pup. I would recommend this breed to anybody looking for a family dog. He is wonderful with our grandchildren too.
